From 21st August 2006 the Royal Mail changed the way postage costs are calculated with the introduction of a new system called 'Pricing in Proportion'.
Franking machine users can save at least 2p on every letter they send.

How does Pricing in Proportion work?
Since the new size and weight based pricing came into effect, you need to sort your mail into three categories: letters, large letters and packets.
The maximum dimensions and weights for each of these are shown below:
