In the unlikely event of your franking machine breaking down the Royal Mail offer the following service:

If your mail is urgent and needs to be posted before the franking machine can be repaired, you can use the Royal Mail franking machine breakdown service whereby the Royal Mail franks your mail on your behalf.

There is a small charge for the total postage costs of the mail plus a 20% administration fee. The total amount will be sent to you in writing and you will need to return a franked impression for the total amount within seven days of your franking machine being repaired.

To use this service you can call 08457 950950 and they will arrange to send you a copy of the franking machine breakdown form which needs to be completed with the appropriate details of the mail to be franked. All you then do is present this form with your mail at your local mailing centre who will be aware of the details of your mailing.
