What is a franking machine ?
The definition of “frank”in the Oxford dictionary is to mark a letter, to record payment of postage.
A franking machine quite literally puts a red mark on your outgoing mail, showing that postage has been paid for using a franking machine, as opposed to sticking a stamp on the item.
The franked mark will show the type of service you are using ie 1st Class or 2nd Class, it will also show the cost of the item being sent, the serial number of the machine being used, and the postal town that the letter has been sent from. It can also print the company logo/return address of those who are sending out the item.
Franking machines are a quick and alternative way to pay for postage instead of making trips to the Post Office for stamps. As from 30th April 2012 there is a saving of 16p on a standard 1st Class letter and 19p saving on a standard 2nd Class letter. So there is even more reason to be using a franking machine with the savings that can be obtained.
A franking machine gives you the flexibility and convenience that you need whether you are running a small business from home or a large corporate company.
